A Candy Cane Chronicle
For this film we take the dreamy Hallmark-esque world of small towns in a Christmas frenzy, and slowly flip it to be overwhelming. Too much of anything can be scary. Perhaps your parents were overbearing, your family reunion was way too big, or your time alone with penguins made you lonely (if that last one is true, care to switch places?).
Without breaks, no matter how much you care about something, it will slowly drive you mad. That’s why relationships struggled during COVID and why people burn out of jobs. In this film we use “The Detective”, Stella’s imaginary helper in solving crimes, to represent burn out. Slowly it’s consuming her life, as her work never stops. Perhaps, you even realize when a break is necessary, but you don’t want to give in. That’s when paranoia sets in. Is everyone out to get you?
